The Stress-Free Move-In & Move-Out Cleaning Checklist

Moving is consistently ranked as one of life's most stressful events. Whether you are trying to get your security deposit back from a strict landlord or wanting to ensure your new house is perfectly sanitized before unpacking, a systematic cleaning approach is essential. Don't wander aimlessly with a rag in hand; follow our top-to-bottom move-in/move-out checklist to guarantee a spotless transition.

[Phase 1: The Top-to-Bottom Rule] Always start at the highest point in a room and work your way down. If you clean the floors first and then dust the ceiling fans, you’ll have to clean the floors twice.

• Ceilings & Walls: Use a microfiber duster with an extension pole to clear cobwebs from corners and crown molding. Carefully wipe down baseboards with a damp cloth—this instantly makes a room look newer.

• Light Fixtures & Fans: Remove glass light covers and wash them in the sink with warm, soapy water. Wipe fan blades with a damp microfiber cloth to trap thick dust.

[Phase 2: The Kitchen Deep Dive] This room requires the most elbow grease.

• Cabinets & Drawers: Vacuum out the crumbs from the inside of every drawer. Wipe down the cabinet doors, paying special attention to the greasy area around the handles and above the stove.

• The Refrigerator: Pull it out if possible to vacuum the dusty coils behind it. Inside, remove all drawers and wash them in the sink. Wipe the interior walls with a food-safe mixture of baking soda and warm water.

• The Oven: Apply a heavy-duty oven cleaner (or a thick baking soda paste for a natural route) and let it sit overnight. Scrub away the burnt carbon deposits the next morning.

[Phase 3: The Bathroom Sanitization]

• Grout & Tiles: Spray a bleach-based cleaner or a hydrogen peroxide solution onto the grout lines. Let it sit for 15 minutes, then attack it with an Electric Spin Scrubber to remove hidden mold and soap scum without breaking your back.

• Toilets & Sinks: Replace the toilet seat if moving into a new home (it's a cheap upgrade for peace of mind!). Scrub the bowl, the base, and behind the toilet where dust and grime accumulate.
